Talk therapy: This is essentially a conversation that includes elements from (among other approaches):
- Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) (no current groups but can incorporate it into individual therapy)
- Existential therapy
- Narrative therapy
- Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
EMDR: This is a three-pronged form of anxiety, addictions, and trauma therapy. The three prongs are past traumas, current triggers, and future situations. EMDR combines bilateral stimulation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain [via (1) guided eye movements; (2) sounds that come through a set of headphones; or (3) small tactile devices you hold in your hands] with a set of questions and directions provided by the therapist. Although this may sound strange to you, it is actually very effective. It is described and explained much more thoroughly by the EMDR International Association. I am EMDRIA-trained to provide EMDR. You, as the client, can choose to try this or not; the decision is always yours.
FLASH: Flash Technique is a very gentle way to approach trauma, OCD, and other difficult conditions. It can be used in conjunction with EMDR or even as a stand-alone treatment.
Mindfulness Meditation: This is an important skill to learn and most people will find it very effective in reducing anxiety and increasing the joy in their lives. It can start with just a couple of minutes and, with practice, the meditation sessions can become longer.
Expressive arts and play therapy: Some people find it therapeutic to include art and board games in their therapy sessions. One does not need to be an “artist” to find it beneficial.
Note: Even when clients want to use EMDR, elements of talk therapy are always included.
Although therapy and coaching overlap in some areas, one major difference between the two is that a diagnosis is not provided in coaching. Coaching can help a person identify barriers that prevent him or her from moving forward in life, such as anxiety about making telephone calls when looking for a job or a particular mindset or worldview that keeps a person from recognizing more options in life. Once a barrier has been identified, coaching can then assist the person in removing it and replacing it with a skill or a new, more adaptive attitude. When a coaching client appears to have challenges that would better be served by therapy, I will encourage the person to find a therapist if the client does not live in Wisconsin.
I am licensed to provide therapy to residents of the State of Wisconsin and that can be done in person, by telephone, or via a face-to-face internet platform similar to Skype but HIPAA-compliant. I can also provide coaching services to people who live outside the State of Wisconsin.

Rates & Insurance
Rates for self-paying clients:
- $120 per session
Sliding scale is available and based on gross income.
Changes for clients who wish to use their insurance: Due to the Covid19 situation, clients who wish to use their insurance are expected to contact their insurance companies and learn about their benefits for behavioral health. You will be expected to pay at the time of service whatever amount your insurance allows for the session. I will then provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for any reimbursement you expect from them.
I have found that an inordinate amount of my time is spent contacting insurance companies for each client. My time is better spent in session with you and in trainings and consultations in order to become a more knowledgeable therapist.
Full payment is expected at time of service at the beginning of the session.
